january tbr

Woohoo! It’s a new month! It’s a whole new YEAR! And, it’s time for my first monthly TBR list of the wonderful year that will be 2019!! I am optimistic that 2019 will be better than 2018, hopefully starting with the books!

Let’s get to my TBR list before I use all the exclamation points in the world…

backlist books

  • The Sisters of the Winter Wood | Rena Rossner – I bought this book kind of on a whim last year from Book Depository because I’d seen it around and I love a good magical realism story. I think this is also technically an adult book, and one of my goals for 2019 is to branch out a little more and try some adult books.
  • I Was Born for This | Alice Oseman – I have heard so many amazing things about this book around the blogosphere that I had to order it special last year since it’s not available in the US, but I HAVE to read it. I love books about celebrity things, and this one is about band fandom and has queer things and mental illness things so of course it’s on my TBR list.

january releases

  • The Love & Lies of Rukhsana Ali | Sabina Khan – In this book, a Muslim lesbian teen is caught kissing her girlfriend and is sent to Bangladesh. I am very excited for this book. I didn’t manage to get an advanced copy but this will be the first thing I spend my B&N gift card from Christmas on.
  • Famous in a Small Town | Emma Mills – I honestly don’t even care what this book is about; it’s by Emma Mills, who wrote THIS ADVENTURE ENDS which I loved, and the cover is SO. FREAKING. CUTE. But I am all about books with small town vibes and I’m predicting romance, too, so when I’m inevitably in the mood for a cute contemporary this month, this will be the one I turn to.
  • Stain | A. G. Howard – I am so excited about this book it’s not even funny. It is no secret that SPLINTERED is one of my favorite series of all time since I got a tattoo inspired by the second book, so obviously STAIN is at the top of my TBR list. It’s billed as a Princess and the Pea retelling with a lot of other fairy tales mixed in, so I am very excited to read this book.
  • The Cerulean | Amy Ewing – I actually liked the first two books of Ewing’s first series, THE JEWEL, even though I never ended up reading book 3. This new duology is apparently set in space, which I’m not a huge fan of usually, BUT it’s about a matriarchal society and a sacrifice and strange legends, so we’ll see if I end up liking it despite the space setting.
  • The Gilded Wolves | Roshani Chokshi – I’ve seen so much hype for this book already that even though I’ve honestly forgotten what it’s actually about other than historical magic Paris, I’m still really excited for it. I still haven’t read a book by this author so hopefully this will be my first and I’ll enjoy it.
