emmie’s questions

1. What is your favorite retelling of a classic (Shakespeare, fairy tale, etc.)

I love retellings, yet when I saw this question, they all went right out of my brain even though I LITERALLY HAVE A TATTOO FROM MY FAVORITE RETELLING. I am an idiot. My favorite retelling is obviously the SPLINTERED trilogy by A. G. Howard, which is a retelling of Alice in Wonderland. Please, just give me all of the Alice retellings this instant. I felt like the ending of the trilogy was a bit of a cop out, but it remains one of my all-time favorite series.

2. Is there a book of which you prefer the movie?

Um…I don’t really like book to movie adaptations as a rule so I don’t know? The only one I can think of is Whale Rider but I’ve never actually tried reading the book it was adapted from so…?

3. What is your favorite type of blog post to write?

It embarrasses me that it’s not even bookish or witchy, but I LOVE writing wrap ups and goals posts. I find it so satisfying to look back on what I’ve done and read throughout the month. I don’t know if anyone else enjoys my goals or wrap up posts, but I love writing them so THEY SHALL NOT STOP.

4. What percentage of books you own have/haven’t you read?

Probably about 50/50. If we only count physical books. If we count unread eARCs on my Kindle, it’s probably more like 75/25. I am ashamed.

5. Which book has a great ending?

omg, I get to gush about DAISY JONES & THE SIX again. I won’t give anything away of course, but that ending CRUSHED. ME. CRUSHEDDDDDD.

6. Do you write/underline in your books?

Not usually, but when I was having some mental health struggles last year I found that annotating helped me engage with the book more, and I did actually enjoy annotating.

7. Which authors that you recently discovered would you like to read more books of?

Ooh, I get to talk about DAISY JONES again. I would love to read more of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books. I did try THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO, but am not sure if I’ll finish it because I found it very upsetting and also I had almost every part of it spoiled for me by the book community, so we will see. But there are lots of other books by her that I think I would enjoy that I want to try.

8. What is your comfort book?

I don’t really know? I wasn’t really a rereader until last year, and my opinion of books tends to change when I reread them, so I’m not sure what I would consider a “comfort book.” I guess I would pick TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE because it’s so charming and sweet and has baking.

9. Greatest turn-off in a fictional love story? Greatest turn-on?

Turn off would be romances where the only obstacle is a lack of communication or some kind of misunderstanding related to communication. I just don’t find that exciting because all the characters would have to do to fix it would be to TALK TO EACH OTHER. My greatest turn-on would be the enemies to lovers trope.

10. What book has been on your tbr the longest?

This is another question I don’t know the answer to because I just unhauled a lot of books that I’ve had for years on my unread bookshelf.

11. What 2020 release are you most looking forward to?

Oh man, there are SO MANY. The one that immediately came to mind when I saw this question was A SONG BELOW WATER, which is a paranormal book about two magical black girls, one of whom is a siren.

i nominate

I am actually very shy/nervous about nominating people for awards like this so I may not do all 11, but I will definitely nominate a few people whose blogs I adore. If you don’t do award tags/tags, I will not be offended, but just know I think you’re all great!!
