the wonderstruck book tag

I know someone tagged me for this while I was gone, but I can’t remember who it was! If it was you, please let me know in the comments so I can link to you 🙂 This tag was created by Purely Olivia. I knew as soon as I saw someone do it that I had to do it eventually because I love books (duh) and I LOVE Taylor Swift, so this is basically my dream tag!

Here are the rules:

  • Link back to the creator (above)
  • Answer as many or as few of the questions as you’d like.
  • Feel free to use any of the graphics in this post.
  • Tag however many people you’d like at the end!

I could choose so many books for this one because I used to be super into heartbreaking and gritty contemporaries, but today I’m picking WHEN MY HEART JOINS THE THOUSAND. It’s about a girl with autism who loves animals and the book WATERSHIP DOWN, and her struggles to form lasting relationships because of past trauma in her childhood. This book was so well written and harrowing and amazing and is ridiculously underrated.

…all of them??? Okay that’s not true. I have a terrible memory. I guess a recent one would be MONDAY’S NOT COMING by Tiffany D. Jackson. It’s about a girl whose best friend goes missing and nobody seems to notice or care. There are some confusing bits and the outcome is definitely super upsetting and disturbing, but this book is so crushingly good.

I would love to see THE BELLES as a movie. Just imagine the teacup animals! Tiny dragons! Bitty elephants! And all the makeup and costumes!! That would be a luscious, sumptuous movie for sure.

I LOVE all of A. G. Howard’s book covers, but I think STAIN might be my favorite.

For this one I think I’d pick THE HAZEL WOOD. I felt like it got a bunch of buzz before it came out, but after it was released everyone said they hated Alice because she was mean. I absolutely loved this one though and loved Alice’s dark temper and the cult fairytales and the spooky vibes.

I actually usually have the opposite happen where I hate the first book in a series but love the second book. Notably, this happened with the DELIRIUM books and the Lunar Chronicles. I was meh about DELIRIUM but thought PANDEMONIUM was really great. With CINDER, I found the writing very poor and the story predictable, but loved both of those things in SCARLET (plus, who could not love Wolf??)

Definitely either INKHEART or THE GOLDEN COMPASS. I listened to both of these books on audio a million times as a kid and still love them.

I almost picked THE SELECTION for the book that everyone hates, but I decided to use it for this prompt instead. This book was like a dystopian fantasy version of Top Model and just gave me so many guilty pleasure swoons.

I’d have to go with THE KISS QUOTIENT for this one because Stella and Michael are for sure my new bookish OTP. I shipped these two immediately and their story is what got me interested in trying out more adult romance.

…am I allowed to pick the same book twice in a row?? I think I’ll use this to gush about THE KISS QUOTIENT some more because I was SO not expecting to love it as much as I did, but I was instantly hooked by the story, the ship, and the writing. This book became a new favorite almost instantly despite thinking I wouldn’t be into adult romance.
