Just Finished

I have made no secret of the fact that I am not an Adam Silvera fan, or really a Becky Albertalli fan other than SIMON VS. Thus, I was very nervous going into this book that I wouldn’t like it. However, I liked this book immediately and fortunately that feeling stayed all the way through. It got a little too long at the end (contemps don’t really need to be over 400 pages, in my opinion), but overall I really liked it. I liked both Arthur and Ben, though I think Ben’s character was more complex, and I loved all the ships and the friendships. This book is totally charming and bittersweet, and was very well-written and fun.

Currently Reading

I already know who really killed the family because a YA book spoiled it for me a while ago, but I still wanted to read this one since the movie is coming out. I am really enjoying this so far, though Shirley Jackson seems to be the queen of run-on sentences. The story is dark and weird and quirky and atmospheric, and Merricat is a fascinating, relatable, and interesting character. I think this will end up a new favorite when I finish it.

Reading Next

I know I keep saying I’m planning to read WILDCARD next and never do, but it’s because I’m waiting for the perfect time to read it uninterrupted and not at work, and this weekend is the perfect time because it’ll be Dewey’s annual 24-hr readathon!! I plan to read WILDCARD first, then hopefully I’ll have time to start on LADY’S GUIDE, which I am super embarrassed not to have read because I’ve had an eARC since forever. This will hopefully be my ultimate reading weekend with perfect books, good snacks, and fun movies in the background, so I hope I can stay up long enough to finish a book or two.

  1. Yay, I’m so happy you enjoyed What If It’s Us! I thought it was a really adorable book and I had such a great time reading it as well πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to hear what you think of Wildcard πŸ™‚

    1. I can’t wait to finally read wildcard and stop saying that I’m about to read it, haha. What If It’s Us definitely hit the spot πŸ™‚

  2. I had such high hopes for What If It’s Us and was totally planning on getting a copy but then I saw some reviews and I just.. didn’t? Haha. I didn’t like Silvera’s History Is All You Left Me at all. One of the characters got on my nerves throughout the entire book and ruined it for me. A friend of mine felt the same, read What If It’s Us and had the same issue with one of the characters so.. that put me off big time. :’) Maybe reading some more reviews will convince me to read it anyway but right now, I don’t think so, haha.

Wildcard and The Lady’s Guide are on my TBR! Hoping to get at least Wildcard read before the year’s over but I have so many other books I want / need to read first so who knows..

    1. History is All You Left Me was actually the only book of his that I thought was kinda good, though the bar is pretty low since I hated his others lol.

I hope you enjoy Wildcard & Lady’s Guide!
