WWW Wednesday is a book blog meme hosted by Taking On A World of Words where book bloggers answer these questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What are you reading next?
  • What did you just finish reading?

just finished

The book I just read is Amanda Lovelace’s latest poetry collection, THE MERMAID’S VOICE RETURNS IN THIS ONE, which is part of her collection series called Women Are Some Kind of Magic. I loved the first book in this series, THE PRINCESS SAVES HERSELF IN THIS ONE, but didn’t love the other two. The second and third one were both very feminist message heavy, which is fine I guess, but it was just too preachy and in your face and not very creative. This one was definitely better than the second collection, but overall I was unimpressed and uninspired by it.

currently reading

I am currently reading two books that I am really enjoying. The first is Lucy Powrie’s THE PAPER AND HEARTS SOCIETY, about a super awkward and anxious teen girl who finds her people in a book club. I’m liking it a lot even though it’s very quiet and slow, but am a little suspending my belief for how mean some of the characters are seemingly without any reason. Some parts of it read more middle grade-y, but I’m still liking it overall.

I’m also reading Phil Stamper’s 2020 debut, THE GRAVITY OF US, which is about a teen who’s an amateur reporter whose father is selected to be an astronaut on a trip to Mars. It’s queer and the writing is excellent and it makes me want to explore journalism and it’s just delightful and good and I’m so here for it. So happy I got this one at Book Expo (I was first in Phil Stamper’s signing line yayyyy!!)

reading next

I’ve been meaning to read my eARC of LOVE FROM A TO Z for forever, so I think it’s finally time I do that and catch up on some stuff that’s been released this year. I also want to start the second Wayward Children series book, DOWN AMONG THE STICKS AND BONES, which is about the characters Jack and Jill from book 1, which I am very psyched about because they were my favorites.

  1. The cover art on all of these is amazing! I’m glad to hear your thoughts on the Women Are Some Kind of Magic series b/c I was contemplating reading them but I’m never in the mood for over preachy anything.
