2020 earcs i can’t wait to read

I have a problem. The problem is my TBR list. I am already super behind on my 2019 TBR because I’ve been reading a lot of backlist books and children’s books and poetry, yet somehow I’m still requesting 2020 eARCs??? What is wrong with me. BUT there are just so many amazing books coming out in 2020 and I’m excited for so many of them that I just can’t resist pressing the download or request button because now that I’m a librarian I get autoapproved for so many things and it’s great but also…my TBR is already ridiculous. Help me.

anyway.

Today I’m going to highlight some eARCs I’ve hauled lately that I’m super psyched to read.

here they are:

look by zan romanoff

I requested this one kind of on a whim expecting not to get it because Penguin doesn’t always accept my requests, but they DID. This one appealed to me because:

  • it’s queer
  • it’s about a teen who’s famous on social media
  • it was pitched as for fans of EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING and WE ARE OKAY, which sounds like the perfectly emotionally crushing combo
  • it just sounded really good alright

So I am v excited to read this one. It is going to be released on March 31, 2020.

the shadows between us by tricia levenseller

Apparently this author wrote this one pirate book that I keep seeing around but never read, but people seem to like it so hopefully this one will be good also. But, with a pitch like this, how can it not be UTTERLY AMAZING AND FANTASTIC:

“Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:

1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.”

I have so many questions, such as who is the Shadow King, is he evil, is she evil, will this be a hate to love romance, also is it too soon to read a book that’s publishing on February 25, 2020????? This book is giving me FOREST OF A THOUSAND LANTERNS vibes and I am so here for it, let me read it RIGHT NOW. Please.

late to the party by kelly quindlen

This book sounds so me it is ridiculous. It’s about Codi, who spends most of her high school social life watching Netflix in the basement with her two best friends. One of her friends decides to crash a party, where she meets another queer teen who takes her under his wing, meets a cute girl, and doesn’t tell her other best friends about her new life. This sounds like the friendshippy and romancey contemporary of my heart and I am here for it. It comes out on April 21, 2020. (Is it too soon to read this one?!?!?!)

dark and deepest red by anna-marie mclemore

I liked the writing in Anna-Marie McLemore’s WILD BEAUTY, so I’m interested to see if I like the story any better in DARK AND DEEPEST RED. This is a historical fiction/magical realism-y book about a mysterious illness that makes women dance in the streets until they fall down dead. I am expecting magic and queerness from this book and I hope it lives up to the high expectations I have of it because of the hype other book bloggers give to this author. DARK AND DEEPEST RED comes out on January 14, 2020.

kingdom of back by marie lu

I’ve been excited about this one since the deal was announced, which was before I ever read WARCROSS and decided that Marie Lu is a queen (despite the fact that I haven’t read her other books). It’s about Nannerl Mozart, sister of the famed composer, who has her own composing dreams, which are dashed year after year because of their tyrannical father and her brother’s growing talents. She gets an offer from a magical land to grant her wish to be remembered forever, but it may come at a high price.

As a former music major, obviously I’m going to be psyched about any music-themed book, but especially one that tackles a female composer and THEN adds a magical twist to it. I screamed when I was granted a copy of this one, and I am so excited for its release on March 3, 2020.

lucky caller by emma mills

I keep meaning to read more Emma Mills since I loved THIS ADVENTURE ENDS so much, but I haven’t yet. Still, I’m excited for her new book, LUCKY CALLER, which is about radio broadcasting clubs, friendship, and teen awkwardness. Maybe this book, set to be released on January 14, 2020, will encourage me to read the other two books by Emma Mills that I keep meaning to read, FOOLISH HEARTS and FAMOUS IN A SMALL TOWN.

  1. Oh yes we’re getting to the point in the year when next year’s releases are calling 😍 I have definitely be adding some 2020 releases to my TBR, Kingdom of Back included. I’m still not 100% sold on the premise … but it’s Marie Lu and I love her books 😄 The Shadows between us also sounds really interesting!

  2. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who fell victim to all the download titles they put up the other day on Edelweiss lmao! I’ve actually read Late to the Party because I was in the mood for contemporary and I LOVED it! Can confirm it’s very relatable and oddly feels like you’re reading a memoir about yourself. I’m hoping to read the Zan Romanoff, Tricia Levenseller, Emma Mills, and Anna-Marie Mclemore ones soon too! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts! <3

ooh I’m even more excited to read Late to the Party now!! I’m in the mood for contemporaries all of a sudden also so maybe I’ll end up reading that one sooner rather than later. I’ll look forward to seeing a review of that one from you if you’re planning on doing that 🙂

  3. omg I went WILD on the macmillan titles that were available and I now have like… seven titles LMAO. I really want to read The Shadows Between Us!! I really loved the author’s pirate books because they were just so badass <3 (I 100% recommend!) also I totally agree about the author's book seeming so intriguing! I WANT AN ENEMIES TO LOVERS ROMANCE TBH

yesyes omg there were so many good titles! I hope the shadows between us is as good as her other books then 🙂 I am also very much hoping for an enemies to lovers romance, aka the best kind imo

  4. i love the colors on the late to the party cover!! also that title + the premise perfectly compliment each other; it’s quite good! also i deeply relate to the typo in the new anna-marie mclemore title because it’s very me and it’s probably VERY true — there Is A Big Chance for it to be a deep and dark read + THAT cover is beautiful too!! the different tones and variations of red speak to me on an emotional level
