I am a huge mood reader–aka one who picks which book to read next based off of their moods–and I’ve been wanting to find new ways to talk about upcoming books for each month, so I’ve decided to experiment with a new feature. My “in the mood for” feature will discuss which books are coming out throughout the month that would fit particular moods.
Oh hey, and new graphics!
Here are your mood-based reads for January:
if you’re in the mood for light & fluffy…
This diverse romance is apparently a retelling of an Indian legend. It’s about a girl who goes to India when her grandmother dies to find some special things her grandmother left there, and, of course, she falls in love.
if you’re in the mood to cry…
I reviewed Rachel Lynn Solomon’s first book, YOU’LL MISS ME WHEN I’M GONE, a while ago, and if that book is any indication, you will def be in need of a box of tissues for her second book. It’s about Sophie, an aspiring choreographer, and how she donates a kidney to her BFF and secret crush, Peter, and how their lives change afterward.
if you’re feeling nostalgic
I’ve watched Buffy so many times it’s ridiculous. So if you’re feeling nostalgic, either for a particular vampire slayer and the Scooby gang or otherwise, maybe give Kiersten White’s continuation of Buffy a shot. I’ve read a couple of her other books and really liked them, so I’m guessing this one will be great, too!

if you’re in the mood for magic…
Have I told you how excited I am for STAIN? I LOVE A. G. Howard’s SPLINTERED trilogy (my second tattoo is inspired by Alyssa’s tattoo in UNHINGED) so obviously this book had to be on this list somehow. It’s billed as a Princess and the Pea retelling where a girl who’s been cast out of her kingdom and raised as a boy has to save her kingdom and prove herself to be a worthy princess. Apparently it also weaves in a lot of other fairy tales, too, so if you’re in the mood for a little (or I guess in this case, a LOT) of magic, give this book a shot!
Out January 15
if you want to have a good laugh…
DEATH PREFERS BLONDES is about a socialite who does high-stakes burglaries in her spare time with a troupe of four kick-boxing drag queens. I haven’t read this one yet, but it sounds like the perfect blend of laughs and suspense.

Oh this is a great idea for a post! I can’t WAIT for you to read Our Year of Maybe, I loved it so, SO much! It is quite emotional, but I just loved it. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it 🙂
