July 2018 \\ actually okay for once??

So July was…fine? I’ve been feeling way better mental health wise and I got meds for my heart condition that seem to be working. Yay for that.

I mean…not much happened, I guess. I saw friends more times, which was nice. It has been raining her a TON. The library leaks sometimes. My cats are cute and cuddly and I love them. My boyfriend is cute and cuddly and I love him.

Oooooh, and I started working on my novel again! More posts on that to come.

Honestly, I cannot think of much else to say because July was a pretty okay month (which is def an improvement over the past few months).

What I Read

I read a few books this month, though of course not as many as *I* wanted to. I always want to read at least 10 but hardly ever get there. Anyway. I actually only read good books this month, and am having a hard time picking a favorite because I really liked everything I read. I think if I had to pick it would be between SHADOW & BONE and WARCROSS…oh, and yes, I FINALLY started the Grisha Trilogy!! I know I’m super late to the hype train, but now that I’ve started the series I am so on it because they are amazing. I also quite liked WARCROSS, which I was not expecting, and books that I don’t expect to like always end up on my favorites list.

I also managed to do Astrothon and read 3 books for it, only one book away from my original 4-book goal. And, I of course have to mention that I read A THOUSAND PERFECT NOTES by Cait of Paper Fury, and I was appropriately blown away by its awesomeness. I fully expected to love this book because Cait is wonderful and I was correct. So glad I got this one from Book Depository!!

Blogging Things

I think my views picked up slightly near the end of the month, which is nice. I am now at 150 followers, woohoo!! I am slowly but surely going up in numbers. I still get more comments than I ever used to, which is also very good and makes me feel very validated as a blogger. I hope that trend continues.

This month I blogged about many things. I enjoyed writing my wtf post about bookstagram and my struggles with it. I also had fun compiling my list of bookish problems, because we bookworms always have so many problems, haha. I was nervous about writing my post about how I feel book blogging has changed, but most people who commented hadn’t been blogging as long as I have so I ended up being safe in terms of controversy.

  1. Sailor Moon – I recently started watching the English dub of Sailor Moon because I just got Hulu and am liking it a lot. I think it’s really cool that this show depicts a teen girl who is very teen-girl like and still has her being powerful. Sailor Moon can be kind of whiny, doesn’t do great in school, and has boy problems, but she still saves the world on a daily basis. Plus, Luna is a cute cat and talking cats make the best sidekicks!
  2. OwlCrate. I decided to resubscribe to OwlCrate this month, and the box for June, “Strange & Peculiar” was THE BEST. I don’t think I’m going to finish the book, which was a green and purple MY PLAIN JANE, but I LOVED all the other items. I especially liked the funko pop keychain of Eleven with Eggos, the whale with books print, and the Luna Lovegood sticker.
  3. Masterchef – Okay, I know I talk about Masterchef all the time, but I enjoy it so much. I’m a little sad that Joe is gone on the most recent season that my bae and I have started, because now the judges are all too nice and nobody’s food has been thrown in the trash yet. Hopefully the show will pick up some as the season goes on.

How was your July? What are your August plans?

  1. Congrats on reaching 150 followers! I’ve found it’s way harder getting blog followers than it is on social media. I’d like to reach 100 sometime in August but I don’t spend too much time or effort worrying about that. Blogging, and getting involved in the community, is fun just by itself!! Best of luck 🙂

    1. I agree! Numbers are nice, but getting involved in the community and talking to other people definitely beats it 🙂 Good luck to you too!

  2. I’m so happy to hear that July was a better month for you, here’s to hoping August will be even better!
I loved Warcross so much, I am so happy you enjoyed it just as well. I can’t wait to read Wildcard!
Congratulations on the followers, that’s amazing and so well-deserved. I’m glad you are having a great time getting involved in the community and chatting with other bloggers, that’s the best! 🙂
Wishing you a wonderful August, Mel! 😀

  3. Not gonna lie, I absolutely love it when Owlcrate includes items from Funko. I got a full size Dobby funko once and that is still one of my favourite boxes (okay, it also had This Savage Song, which is a book I adore, but still … the funko was a plus).

    1. Yesssss I love funko pops so much! I’ve gotten three funko items from owlcrate so far and every time I’m so excited to get one!
