weekly happenings

  • Our ceiling had more problems. Well, not the ceiling, but the same pipe burst and our ceiling leaked again. So that was fun.
  • We started looking into transferring apartments. Because of the ceiling and also we’ve never been happy living right next to the road.
  • I started planning children’s programs at work. I’m really excited for a lot of the programs I’m planning. I’m probably not ready to do a storytime on my own yet, but I’m hoping I will be by late September-early October. My boss and other coworkers are all being very supportive and mindful that I’m in training and have never been a children’s librarian before, so it’s kind of nice not to have pressure to start right away even though I’m excited to do so.
  • The job is still going well. I am a LOT less stressed. I realized that I never really felt safe at my old library because we had really difficult and often aggressive clientele, but patrons at my new branch seem nice and normal for the most part. I’m also much more able to be a nice, friendly person to everyone who comes in because I’m not scared that I’m going to have a conflict every time I talk to someone. It’s just so nice to work in a library that’s smaller, more manageable, and with nicer patrons. I’m sure I will have some conflicts, but I think since they’re not happening on a daily basis I’ll be better able to cope and still do my job well.

books read

Guys, I FINALLY finished DAISY JONES & THE SIX and…OMG, I am SHOOK AS HELL. I haven’t had a book crush my soul that much since FOREST OF A THOUSAND LANTERNS last year. Just…OMG, I can’t get over how amazing this book was. It was expertly written in a cool format, the characters were all super fascinating, the relationships were excellently crafter and just…I can’t tell you how much I loved this book. Beyond a new favorite.

currently reading

One of my coworkers was reading this book last week so obviously I had to ask her what she thought since it was on my TBR, and that encouraged me to give it a try even though her review was mixed. Mine is honestly so far as well; the writing is really…not good. It’s weirdly stilted and definitely reads like a debut. The magical realism feels awkward and doesn’t seem to work seamlessly with the story at this point and I was left feeling confused at parts. Still, I want to keep reading it because I want to know what happens, and I feel a pull to finish it despite my misgivings.
