Just Finished

Okay, to be fair, I just DNF’ed this one. I tried it even though I was a little iffy about it because everyone is so psyched about it and this one is getting so much hype. Let me just say…it is not well-deserved hype. The book is pitched as “for fans who shipped Alina and the Darkling,” and honestly it read kind of like bad Grisha fanfic. It was trying really hard to be a combo of the Grisha trilogy and DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE, but it failed. The world building was lackluster and confusing, the writing was boring, and character development was…nonexistent. If you’re also feeling iffy about this one, I’d say skip it.

Currently Reading

WICKED SAINTS did put me in the mood for the Grisha trilogy, which I have not finished, so I started rereading SHADOW & BONE even though I read the first two books only a couple months ago. I just…have terrible series amnesia. I don’t know what to do about it except reread series books when I want to read the next book in the series. I’m enjoying my reread thus far though, because I loved SHADOW AND BONE the first time I read it, too.

Reading Next

Obviously I’ll be continuing my Grisha kick with SIEGE & STORM. Then I’ll probably dive right into RUIN & RISING and finish the trilogy. After that, I’m debating rereading A TORCH AGAINST THE NIGHT because I still haven’t read REAPER yet.
